Sylhet International Cricket Stadium

Sylhet International Cricket Stadium is a very famous cricket stadium, which is also known as the ‘Stylish Stadium’. Previously, it was called ‘Sylhet Divisional Stadium’ and it is located in Bangladesh, which is a country beside India. This stadium has a very beautiful scenic view and it is the only cricket stadium with a green gallery. It has a seating capacity of more than 18,500 people and it is operated by the National Sports Council. 

It was established in 2007 and later the stadium was expanded in 2013. The stadium hosted its first international match on March 17, 2014, which was between Ireland and Zimbabwe. It also hosted the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup. This stadium is a must visit place for its greenery and scenic beauty and for the sports fan.

History of Sylhet International Cricket Stadium

Sylhet International Cricket Stadium is mainly known for its cricket matches and it is considered a batting friendly pitch with assistance for spinners. This stadium was built in the year 2007 and it was initially named as ‘Sylhet Divisional Cricket Stadium’. Initially it was only used for domestic matches of Bangladesh, but later, it was expanded and now it is famous for international games.

Sylhet has a tropical climate, with hot and humid weather most of the year. Rain is common during the monsoon season. In the year 2013, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) renovated and expanded the stadium to meet international standards. The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup was held here in the year 2014. The stadium’s beautiful green galleries made it a preferred location for major matches. On March 17, 2014, Ireland and Zimbabwe played the first T20 international match at this venue as an inaugurated match. Since then, several records have been made in this stadium and many more are waiting.

Sylhet International Cricket Stadium has a tropical monsoon climate, meaning it is hot and humid for most of the year. However, the weather changes with the seasons, such as:

During summer, which is March to May, the temperature ranges between 32–36°C, which makes it hot and humid. The monsoon season (June to September) brings heavy rainfall, which sometimes interrupts matches and its score. Apart from this, it is the season that makes the stadium’s green surroundings even more beautiful.

Lastly, Winter (November to February) is the most pleasant season of Sylhet, with cool and breezy weather. Temperatures during this time ranges between 15–25°C, which makes it the best time for cricket matches due to clear skies and comfortable playing conditions.
