Sergio Perez is aiming for a Formula 1 comeback. He left Red Bull after the Dhabi Grand Prix, which was the last race of the 2024 F1 season.
In mid-2024, he did sign a two-year contract extension with Red Bull. In 2024, he was not able to win any race. The 35-year-old Mexican had his poorest season since 2021, making just four podium finishes.
Perez, who gave an interview to Formula 1, said: “I’ve been approached by a few teams since Abu Dhabi. The season has started, so a few things will open up in the coming months.”
“Once I know all my options, I will make a decision.
“What is very clear to me is that I’m only coming back if the project makes sense and it’s something I can enjoy.”
However, things were outstanding for Perez in 2023. He did finish second in the drivers’ championship, losing to former teammate Max Verstappen.
2024 was one of the poorest seasons of his F1 career, as not winning even a single race since 2019 did impact him to the core.
He did not find it comfortable driving Red Bull’s RB20 car last year.
Even his replacement in 2025, Liam Lawson, did have a poor start in the first two races. Hence, he lost the spot and was replaced by Yuki Tsunoda.
Perez said: “Now, all of a sudden, people realise how difficult the car is to drive.”
