English football pundit Micah Richards feels that Liverpool have shown good signs this season, but they are not exceptional.
The remarks came, on Sky Sports’ Premier League coverage in the United Kingdom, after Fulham beat the Reds by 3-2 at home in the English top-flight on Sunday.
As second-placed Arsenal had a 1-1 draw on Saturday, it did give Arne Slot’s side a chance to gain another two-point lead and make the PL title chase easier.
But Marco Silva’s side had a different plan. Alexis McAllister opened the scoreline in the 14th minute for the visitors. However, Fulham came back stronger with Ryan Sessegnon, Alex Iwobi and Rodrigo Muniz scoring a goal each in the first half.
This made Fulham gain a 3-1 lead after the end of the first 45 minutes.
Luis Diaz’s 72nd-minute goal made the scoreline 3-2. But LFC was not able to score the third goal and hence lost three points.
Richards strongly feels that Liverpool have shown a decent touch in the PL. But they have not been as good as an apple pie overall.
The former Man City full-back said: “I don’t even think Liverpool have been outstanding this season, they’ve been efficient.”
“They’ve been slower in build-up and more ruthless in front of goal.”
Other than having a clear chance to the PL, the Reds have not won any other silverware or have a chance to win.
They did lose the EFL Cup final to Newcastle United and were knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 last month.
Even Liverpool are out of the FA Cup action too. This shows that PL is the only title they can win in the 2024-25 season.
With just seven games left in the PL this season, Liverpool have an 11-point lead over second-placed Arsenal. The gap is still big between both PL giants, but losing the match with ease does not work well for Arne Slot and compnay.
Liverpool will next face visitors West Ham United in the PL on Sunday.
