Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana had a night to forget in the first leg of the Europa League quarters on Thursday.
In an electrifying clash at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais, Lyon scored two goals as Man United goalkeeper Onana made two back-to-back errors.
Thiago Almada opened the scoreline in the 25th minute and put the former Inter Milan goalkeeper under pressure.
Defender Leny Yoro’s late first goal followed by Joshua Zirkzee’s 88th-minute strike helped the Red Devils take a 2-1 lead.
However, Rayan Cherki scored the goal in the added time (second half, 90+5’) and finished the first leg 2-2.
Both of Lyon’s goals came due to Onana making blunders.
Before the clash, former Man United midfielder Nemanja Matic called Onana ‘one of the worst goalkeepers in United’s history.’
The 29-year-old goalkeeper then fired back, with a post on X saw Onana holding the FA Cup he won last year.
But by the end of the first leg, Matic’s words seemed to have a point as he made two big mistakes.
Paul Scholes, who is a Man United legend, felt that Onana should have not replied to Matic with words.
Scholes said: “He’s probably wishing he kept his mouth shut before the game I would have thought.”
“The keeper I’m not sure what he’s trying to do to be honest. It’s an awful mistake from him.”
Since joining Man United from Inter in 2023, The Nigerian international has been criticised for making errors from time to time.
