Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are two of the most talked about names in the world of football. They are not just the legends for Liverpool, but crucial senior players too.
Despite a host of worldwide attractions wanting to sign Salah and Van Dijk, LFC is confident of keeping them at Anfield beyond the 2024-25 season, as per Athletic.
Last week, Liverpool were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain. On Sunday, they lost the EFL Cup final to Newcastle United 2-1 at Wembley Stadium.
However, they are favourites to win the Premier League this season. Arne Slot’s side beat Manchester City 2-0 away from home in the PL on Thursday.
Both Salah and Van Dijk have not signed any contract extension, with their contracts expiring on 30 June 2025.
This has made their chances of leaving Liverpool higher.
The futures of Salah and Van Dijk are still not clear, but their teammate and world-class right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is leaving the club as a free agent this summer.
The 32-year-old forward (Salah) has scored 27 goals in 29 PL apps.
Van Dijk, as a centre-back, is leading the Reds well from behind.
Hence, letting them leave this summer can cost the club a lot. Arne Slot’s side have collected 70 points in 29 games, having 12 points advantage over second-placed Arsenal.
Staying for one more season at Liverpool can make Salah score 200 PL goals for Liverpool. The Egypt forward has scored 181 goals for the Reds in 279 outings.
The former Chelsea and AS Roma forward joined the LFC in 2017. Since then, he has never scored less than 18 goals in a single PL season.
The Dutch defender Van Dijk also made the move to Liverpool in the middle of the 2017-18 season. He is being seen as the key reason behind Liverpool’s growth in winning silverware.
