Callum Hudson-Odoi, 24, is eyeing to make a comeback to England National Football Team. The former Chelsea winger sees his move to join Nottingham Forest from Chelsea in 2023 as one of the soundest decisions of his professional football career.
Hudson-Odoi was once considered as one of the best players coming from Chelsea’s youth academy.
He made his debut for the Blues in the 2017-18 season. Back then, looking at his style of play, FC Bayern Munich made several bids to sign Hudson-Odoi but Chelsea rejected all the offers coming in for their academy star.
After not being able to shine in the coming two to three seasons, he made a loan move to Bayer Leverkusen in the 2022-23 season. However, not scoring even once in 14 Bundesliga outings made him come back to Chelsea and then make a move to Nottingham Forest in 2023.
Upon joining Forest, he signed a three-year deal (in 2023). The historical English club paid reportedly £3 million with £2 million in add-ons to Chelsea for signing the England international.
In 2019, he made his debut for the Three Lions against the Czech Republic at Wembley Stadium.
However, he has only made three apps for England’s senior side. His last outing for England was against Kosovo in Nov 2019.
Last season, the 24-year-old winger scored eight Premier League goals in 29 apps for Nottingham Forest.
In the ongoing 2024-25 PL season, he has added five goals in 25 apps.
Third-placed Nottingham Forest are in a good run this season, with 54 points in 29 PL matches. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are five points ahead of fourth-placed Chelsea, making them very close to securing the Champions League spot for next season.
Hudson-Odoi was managed by current England head coach Thomas Tuchel when he was leading Chelsea from 2021 to 2022. Back then, the relationship between Hudson-Odoi and Tuchel was not that sound.
But he still feels that hard work can change this equation.
He said: “If the possibility and chance [for England] comes – I will have to go there and prove myself all over again.”
