Billie Jean King, who is a (tennis) living legend, became the first woman to win the Hollywood Walk of Fame ‘star’.
Earlier, the Hollywood Walk of Fame was preserved for personalities from theatre and music, cinema, radio and television. Now even sports stars can also win this iconic ‘star’.
After receiving the prestigious award, King said: “The important thing is, I don’t want to be the last one.”
“My family loved music and movies. My mother would have loved this.”
The event first started in 1960, with King being the 2,807th person to get his honour. King’s tennis career was something special, having won 39 Grand Slam titles in total (singles and doubles).
In 1973, she did win the ‘Battle of the Sexes’ against Bobby Riggs. It was a part of her gender equality issue.
Not to forget that she started the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).
Billie Jean King, who is the former number 1 (female) in tennis, won the 2018 BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year.
Two years later, in 2020, the Fed Cup became the Billie Jean King Cup.
