Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad feels that leaving the opening position for Rahul Tripathi and batting down is good for the team overall.
Gaikwad’s side (CSK) beat Mumbai Indians in Chennai on Sunday (March 23) by four wickets.
Last season in the IPL, Gaikwad scored 583 runs in 14 matches as an opener for CSK.
However, he now feels that coming at the ‘Number 3’ position in the batting order would help CSK find overall greater balance.
But his replacement as the opener, Rahul Tripathi, was able to score just two runs in three balls vs MI.
After losing the first wicket, while chasing a total of 156, Gaikwad came and scored 53 runs in 26 balls.
Gaikwad’s teammate Rachin Ravindra remained not out (65 runs in 45 balls), helping CSK to win a mega clash at home.
Gaikwad said: “That is the requirement of the team (bat at three) and that gives the team more balance and I am really happy to change my position.”
In 2024, Gaikwad became the captain of CSK.
