England Captain Harry Kane feels that all the governing bodies in football should at least take pointers from players before adding new games and events.
Kane, who scored a half-second goal in England’s 3-0 victory over Latvia in a World Cup qualifier on Monday, thinks that the upcoming fixtures for club and country will not allow many players to get proper rest.
Kane’s side will play games in the next international window from 2-10 June. Then from June 15 to July 13, Kane’s Bayern Munich are going to feature at the expanded Fifa Club World Cup.
It means that there is no proper rest for many star footballers between June and July before the next season starts in August.
“I don’t think the players are listened to that much, if I’m totally honest,” he said.
Kane, who made his debut in 2015 for the Three Lions, has scored 71 goals in 105 appearances. He is just 20 apps away from breaking the record of Peter Shilton – 125 caps (most for England).
He added: “But it’s not an easy question, it’s not an easy situation. I think there could be a balance from both sides, but we’d have to see how that pans out.”
From Aug to May, players play for their clubs other than having some international breaks. Then several top players represent their nations in case a mega event like the Euro or World Cup is going to take place that summer.
If there is no Euro or World Cup, then a new Club World Cup will take place in the summer. Also before the start of a new season, teams start to play warmup games in different parts of the world.
This, in a way, makes no space for top players to get proper rest in between.
Even England head coach Thomas Tuchel shared his views on this concerning topic.
He said: “I am more concerned that they never have a real break of three to four weeks.”
The former Tottenham Hotspur striker wants clubs and national teams of players to manage things in a manner where they can get rest to keep on performing well and stay injury-free.
