Sol Campbell is one of the best centre-backs in the history of English football. His move to join Arsenal from Tottenham Hotspur in 2001 is something that still makes Spurs fans angry.
Campbell has not just joined the North London rivals of the Whites but made them win the Premier League titles in the 2001-02 and 2003-04 (invincibles) seasons.
Not only did Campbell play for Spurs and joined Arsenal as a free agent, but he came from their youth ranks too.
On Stick to Football podcast, Campbell revealed the main reason behind leaving the club.
He said: “The main thing for me was that they never paid the youngsters who grew up proper money.”
The former England defender had his debut for Spurs in 1992, appearing 255 times in the English top flight and scoring 10 goals.
For Arsenal, he made 145 apps but managed to win two PL titles.
It is a fact that the stats and achievements of Sol Campbell hurt Spurs fans as he was their hero at one point in time.
