His ability to construct an innings has allowed him to succeed in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. Although his approach has sometimes been debated in the shortest format, his consistency across international cricket has made him one of Pakistan’s most important players.
Babar has also served as Pakistan’s captain and has experienced both the rewards and pressures that come with leading an international cricket team.

Babar Azam Early Life
Babar was born and raised in Lahore, a city with a strong cricketing culture. Cricket became an important part of his childhood, and he began developing his skills at a young age.
Rather than taking a shortcut to international cricket, Babar progressed through the traditional Pakistani cricket structure. He represented Pakistan at the Under-19 level before moving into domestic and representative cricket.
His performances at the junior level helped establish his reputation as one of Pakistan’s promising young batters.
The experience he gained during his early years helped him develop the technique and temperament that later became central to his international career.
Babar Azam’s Early Cricket Development
His early cricket journey can broadly be divided into several stages:
- Childhood cricket in Lahore
- Age-group cricket
- Pakistan Under-19 cricket
- Domestic cricket

This gradual development gave Babar valuable exposure before he became a regular member of Pakistan’s senior team.
Babar Azam Education
Babar Azam has become internationally known primarily because of his cricket career, while detailed information about his formal academic education is comparatively limited in the public domain.
His professional development was strongly influenced by cricket academies, coaches, age-group cricket and domestic competitions.

Babar Azam International Cricket Career
Babar Azam made his international debut for Pakistan in 2015.
His arrival came at an important time for Pakistan cricket, and he gradually became one of the team’s most dependable batters.
Instead of immediately becoming a superstar in every format, Babar built his reputation through consistent performances. His ability to score runs against different bowling attacks eventually helped him become a regular member of Pakistan’s playing XI.
His international career has included:
- Test cricket
- ODI cricket
- T20I cricket
- ICC tournaments
- Bilateral international series
- International captaincy
- Franchise cricket
His ability to perform across formats has been one of the most important aspects of his career.
Babar Azam ODI Career

The 50-over format allows him to use his strengths as an innings-builder. He can begin cautiously, rotate the strike and gradually increase his scoring rate as the innings develops.
His ODI batting is built around balance, timing and controlled aggression rather than constant power hitting.
Babar has also spent periods as the world’s No. 1 ODI batter, demonstrating the level of consistency he has achieved in the format.

Babar Azam T20I Career
Babar has also established himself as a major name in T20I cricket.
His approach in the shortest format is based on timing and innings construction. However, T20 cricket has evolved rapidly, and players are increasingly expected to score aggressively from the beginning.
This has occasionally resulted in discussions about Babar’s strike rate and role in Pakistan’s T20 setup.
Despite these debates, his ability to score consistently has made him an important part of Pakistan’s T20I history.
He has also achieved major milestones in T20I cricket, including becoming one of the fastest players to reach significant run totals.
Babar Azam in the 2026 T20 World Cup
The 2026 T20 World Cup was another important tournament in Babar’s international career.
His tournament performances were mixed, with scores including 46 against the USA, 15 against the Netherlands, 5 against India and 25 against England.
The tournament once again highlighted the challenge of balancing Babar’s traditional batting strengths with the increasingly aggressive demands of modern T20 cricket.
Nevertheless, his experience and ability to handle pressure continued to make him an important player for Pakistan.
Babar Azam Captaincy Career
Captaincy became one of the most significant chapters of Babar Azam’s career.
He eventually became Pakistan’s captain across formats, taking responsibility for leading one of the most passionate cricket teams in the world.
His leadership period included major international tournaments and important bilateral series.
One of the biggest moments came during the 2022 T20 World Cup, when Pakistan reached the final under his leadership. Pakistan eventually lost the final to England, but reaching the final remained a significant achievement.
Captaincy also brought criticism, particularly after disappointing tournament results.
The experience gave Babar valuable lessons about leadership, decision-making and managing pressure.
Why Did Babar Azam Leave Pakistan’s White-Ball Captaincy?
Babar Azam stepped down as Pakistan’s white-ball captain in October 2024.
His decision was primarily connected to his desire to concentrate more strongly on his batting and contribute to Pakistan as a player.

The move represented a major turning point in his career.
Babar Azam Returns to Test Captaincy
