At the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday, the Punjab Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 5 wickets in a rain-affected match.
As a result, both teams had 14 overs to play. Punjab won the toss and selected to bowl first.
Tim David’s unbeaten 50 off 26 balls made a sound impact. But leaving Tim aside, only RCB captain Rajat Patidar scored 23 in 18 balls and played a fine role. But others did not make a smooth impact.
RCB added just 95 runs at the cost of nine wickets in 14 overs. A collective effort from the Punjab bowlers worked well, with Arshdeep Singh, Marco Jansen, Harpreet Brar, and Yuzvendra Chahal taking two wickets each.
As the target of 96 was not too big, the Punjab batting unit, adding decent runs collectively, worked well. Priyansh Arya added 16 runs, while his opening partner, Prabhasimran Singh, played a decent knock of 13 runs.
Captain Shreyas Iyer also added seven runs. But Josh Inglis’ 14 (runs) and Nehal Wadhera’s unbeaten 33 off 19 helped them chase the total in 12.1 overs, winning the game by five wickets.
This was second-placed Punjab’s fifth victory in the first seven matches. RCB are fourth, with four wins in seven games (losing three) in the IPL 2025.
