Ruben Amorim, ahead of facing Lyon at Old Trafford, has made it clear that Andre Onana will start as a goalkeeper for Manchester United in the second leg (quarter-finals).
Last week, Man United’s trip to Lyon did not work as planned. Onana’s two mistakes helped the home side have a 2-2 draw.
Amorim took off the former Inter Milan goalkeeper in Sunday’s Premier League match against Newcastle United, which United lost 4-1.
Ahead of the first leg last week, former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic criticised Onana for not being good enough to lead the Red Devils.
Matic, at present, plays for Lyon. Onana’s howlers made Matic’s statement solid.
However, Man Utd boss Amorim sees the Nigerian international making a sound impact at home.
He said: “Onana will play tomorrow (Thursday).”
“So sometimes we talk about managing players physically, we have to manage them also mentally but they have to return to competition.
“Onana is ready, he had one weekend that I felt it was better for him to not play and a good thing for Altay to play and this week my thinking was to put Onana to play.”
Losing the quarterfinal tie might impact Onana’s future at Man United.
