Bukayo Saka had one of the biggest games in his professional football career in Madrid on Wednesday.
In the first half of the Champions League quarter-final second leg, the 23-year-old winger missed a penalty in the first half. But in the following half, the England international scored Arsenal’s first goal in the second leg.
Last week, the Gunners won the home leg against Real Madrid 3-0. Brazil’s Vinícius Junior added a goal in the 67th minute. But the home side were not able to shine moving forward and even conceded a goal in the added time, thanks to Gabriel Martinelli.
Saka, who became a villain to a hero in Madrid, felt that the victory over Real shows they belong at the highest level of football.
He told TNT Sports: “We showed that we can play in Europe and beat one of the best teams in the world, home and away. Very proud of this team.”
The Gunners will battle against Paris Saint-Germain in the UCL semi-finals. The first leg of the semi-final tie will take place at the Emirates Stadium on April 29.
PSG beat England’s Aston Villa 5-4 on aggregate to reach the semis.
Meanwhile, in the first leg, Declan Rice’s brace and Mikel Merino’s strike led them to a 3-0 victory at home.
